Indications and Uses:
As an adjunct to diuretic therapy, for the treatment of mild, moderate, or severe congestive heart failure in dogs caused by mitral valve regurgitation or dilated cardiomyopathy. Used to improve exercise tolerance and survival rate in dogs with mild, moderate, or severe congestive heart failure.
Dosage and Administration:
Oral administration: 0.5 mg per 1 kg of body weight for dogs, once daily.
If the expected clinical response does not occur within 2 weeks after the start of treatment, the dose should be increased based on the dog's body weight to a maximum of 0.5 mg per kg of body weight, twice a day. Dose adjustment can be completed within 2 to 4 weeks, or more quickly if symptoms of congestive heart failure persist. The dog should be closely observed for 2 days after the start of medication or the increase in dose. Diuretic therapy should be started at least 1 day before starting treatment with this drug. Evaluation of the dog should include an assessment of renal function before treatment and 2 to 7 days after treatment.
