Phenylbutazone.......200mg

Description
 
Phenylbutazone is a pyrazolone derivative belonging to the group of antipyretic analgesics with besides analgesic and antipyretic also anti-inflammatory properties (NSAIDs). Phenylbutazone acts by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins.
 
Indications
 
(Peri-)arthritis, bursitis, myositis, neuritis, tendinitis, tendovaginitis, muscle injuries and painful injuries like contusions, distortions, haemorrhages and luxations in horses.
 
Dosage
 
Cattle:  1mL for each 22.5 kg of weight intramuscularly or intravenously. 
Repeat if necessary, at intervals of 24 hours, but not more than 5 consecutive days.
Horses:  In visceral pain associated with colic, 1mL is recommended for every 45 kg of weight intramuscularly or intravenously, at the onset of symptoms. Treatment can be repeated 1 or 2 times if symptoms reappear.
In inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal changes, 1 ml is recommended for every 45 kg of weight, intramuscularly or intravenously, once a day for no more than 5 consecutive days.
 
Drug withdrawal period
 
Cattle: Slaughter: slaughter of animals treated with this product should only be carried out 20 days after the last application. Milk: Milk from animals treated with this product
 
SIDE EFFECTS
 

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can cause inhibition of phagocytosis and hence in the treatment of inflammatory conditions associated with bacterial infection, appropriate concurrent antimicrobial therapy should be instigated.

There is a risk of irritancy if the injection is accidentally inoculated under the skin during intravenous administration.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
 
The therapeutic index of phenylbutazone is low. Do not exceed the stated dose or the duration of treatment.
Do not administer with other NSAIDs concurrently or within 24 hours of each other.
Do not use in animals suffering from cardiac, hepatic or renal disease, where there is the possibility of gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding, or where there is evidence of blood dyscrasias or hypersensitivity to the product.
Use during pregnancy should be avoided whenever possible, particularly during the first trimester.
