Pharmacological properties
This product is an important coenzyme component for synthesizing nucleotides, participates in methyl transfer and folic acid metabolism in the body, and promotes the conversion of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate into tetrahydrofolate. When it is deficient, it can cause folic acid deficiency, which in turn leads to DNA synthesis disorders and affects the development and maturation of red blood cells. This product also promotes the conversion of methylmalonic acid into succinic acid and participates in the tricarboxylic acid cycle. This effect is related to the synthesis of myelin lipids and the maintenance of the integrity of the function of sheathed nerve fibers. The nerve damage caused by vitamin B12 deficiency may be related to this.
Vitamin B12 is combined with alpha and beta globulins in the blood and transported to various tissues throughout the body, most of which are distributed in the liver. Vitamin B12 is mainly excreted from urine and bile.
When vitamin B12 is deficient, the growth and development of cells and tissues in the body will be inhibited. The reduction in red blood cell production is particularly obvious, which can cause pernicious anemia in animals. In addition, the metabolism of other tissues is also impaired, such as damage to the nervous system.
